Insuring Restaurants
Restaurants can be insured on a businessowners policy, which includes property and liability coverage
- Primary activity is a Restaurant - typically family-style dining
- Liquor sales must be less than 40% of the total food/liquor sales (no bars or taverns)
- Property in good repair with stair railings and well-lighted steps in public areas
- Combined Building, Contents, and Loss of Income coverage may not exceed $750,000

- No operations other than restaurants may be bound. Call your underwriter
- No home delivery sales
- The owner of a restaurant building who does not operate the restaurant is ineligible for this program (Lessor's risk situations)
**Call your underwriter for coverage the building owner may be eligible for** - Restaurant must be fully operational (not under renovation or under construction) when coverage is BOUND
NFPA UL-300 Fire Suppression System Standard
All new submissions (including rewrites of previous Midstate policies) MUST comply with UL-300, and must be protected by an approved hood and duct system, and MUST have in place a six-month cleaning contract in place from a qualified contractor... **NO EXCEPTIONS**
Commercial kitchen exposures without a hood and duct system or not meeting UL-300 standards, may not be written, even with a premium surcharge.
